Anne Maundrell Designs
About me
I am originally from the south of England, but have been living in Brunei, in South East Asia, for a number of years and I find it a rich source of inspiration for the art quilts that I like to make. I have been quilting for a long time but until quite recently only made the more traditional style patchwork and appliqué quilts. However, once I started creating my own designs I discovered what I really enjoy doing most of all. I find so much to inspire me in my surroundings here, that the only problem is finding enough time to do all the things I'd like to.
My favourite fabrics are batiks and hand dyes because their subtle and varied colours perfectly suit the sort of designs that I like to create. Each wall hanging is unique and individually hand made by myself, so no two pieces are ever the same even though I might repeat popular designs such as my geckos and hornbills. I use a variety of techniques to create my wall hangings, from intricate hand sewn needleturn appliqué, foundation piecing, satin stitch, raw edge and invisible machine appliqué. In my blog Anne's Creative Threads I write about my inspirations and how I go about constructing the various quilts I make, as welll as a bit about my life here in Brunei.
In the Gallery of Quilts you can see a selection of my wall hangings, ranging from traditonal landscapes to rain forest scenes, exotic flowers, birds, geckos, cats and traditional native designs.
Most of my designs are finished as wall hangings with either a sleeve or loops so that they can be hung from a rod or wooden bar. I like to work on a small scale so most of the designs are around 20 inches by 20 inches (55cms by 55cms.) so can easily be hung and displayed anywhere. Each quilt is also finished with its own label.
