This is a recent version of my original hornbill design. These wonderful birds are frequent visitors  to many of the gardens here and I've had many opportunities to photograph and observe them.

The hornbill is constructed using invisible machine appliqué on a batik background with three dimensional leaves.  The design is quilted using rayon thread and a freehand  trailing vine and leaf pattern
